Orange Pride Quilt

This quilt was created in 1978 as an entry in a quilt show in Santa Rosa, California.  The images were from a coloring book that was inspired by the labels used on orange crates.  The hand embriodery for each block took approximately twenty hours to complete.  Viola used two strands of DMC thread and a crewel technique of long and short stitches to fill in the designs.
Tom Cat label was inspired by the family's pet Siamese cat, Mao Tse Tung.
The joiner blocks (not shown) used a quilting pattern created by tracing an orange leaf.
Although the quilt did not receive any recognition in the Santa Rosa show, (entered in the wrong category) it was later entered in a show in Virginia where it was voted "Best of Show".
